About Ku’uleI
Ku‘ulei is a director and impact producer rooted in traditional voyaging, nonprofit strategy, and environmental education. Born in Kāne‘ohe, Oʻahu, and raised across the diaspora, she uses both scripted and unscripted films to explore identity, community, and place.
In 2025, she premieres two films: Indigenous Naʻau (HIFF) — a canoe‑centered documentary about elder wisdom in Hawaiʻi — and Grace (PIFFNYC), a short narrative of love and resistance amid Hawaiʻi’s contentious path to statehood.
Previously, she co-directed and produced the award-winning feature documentary, Dream Chasers: The Fit to Recover Story, which explores health and wellness in recovering from substance use disorders. Her work has been published by Forbes, Patagonia, and major foundations.
Ku‘ulei believes filmmaking has the power to help us understand how our choices impact both ourselves and the health of the world. For her, the storyteller's role is to honor traditional wisdom, share historical truths, and perpetuate culture.
